Meanwhile, the X-Box game from Microsoft has been selling quite good in Japan ( not as high as expected but Microsoft said the target is completed). The first launching was on 22nd last month. Well, I am not a game craze but somehow I saw lots of its ad on television, and I was wondering how good the game is; I searched on the web and I found this : X-Box along with the Japanese site : X-Box(Jap).
Enyt's Blog
I started to write this blog in 2002 when I was still living in Osaka. This blog is more about my life abroad, my past and my present.
About Me
- Name: enyt
- Location: New York, New York, United States
November is my fav month. I was born in Indonesia 28 years ago and currently living in New York. In the city of no close friends, i spend most of my leisure time at the gym and bookstores and yet i am neither muscular nor a nerd..: ) I take life as it is, i try to get as much as from life experiences while i am still young. I've been given a lot of opportunities to spend my life abroad, my inside curiosity is like a three years old kid. Give me the world, i'll give you my heart. :P

It's a Pollinosis season in Japan, a kind of nose disease caused by the Japanese cedars. It makes your nose itchy and sniff all the time (it hurts your nose), and happens around this time of spring. I begin to see people wearing the nose masks. So far, it hasn't happened to me yet, hopefully not.

I had a nice time in Asia Library last night. I mean it's not something very interesting happened, it's just my feeling that felt fine..:-) Ah, and no other students coming so we just had a relax talks for about half an hour before starting. Somehow we talked about animals in both Japanese and Indonesian languages ( my previous sensei, Kamachi sensei also joined us in). Sumitani sensei is my new teacher starting this month. She is learning Indonesian language and have been to Indonesia five times already ! wow !
Recently, I'm starting to have the " lonely " feeling. I am kinda afraid of living alone next month, maybe because I am used to live with a roommate. Ken already warned me that I will feel it, ahh..what to do ? but then I told him that I'd be his regular visitor since we 'll live not too far from each other..^.^ But probably I'd spend more times in studying since I won't have someone to talk to at home...that's the positive point.

Last night, we watched Dracula 2000 on the video, it's quite scary but not a good movie. Actually it was Henry's idea to rent that movie at 23.00pm, so we walked to the Tsutaya rental shop and also rent two Japanese cds. In Japan, even you rent a movie or a music cd, you have to pay 5% tax on it.
As I was watching, I had to use both my hands to cover my face and left only a small space for my eyes cause I didn't want to watch the scary parts. Sounds like a child watching a horror movie ? ^.^ ( Henry was the "bravest" one while Ken doen't like scary movies at all )
Woke up at 12.30pm this morning(??), cause we slept at 2am after the movie. Ok, it's just an excuse. Usually on weekends, we wake up late in the afternoon and then realize that we're gonna lose half of the day. But that's holiday, right ? :-)
After the lunch, me and Ken went to Shinsaibashi and Namba because I wanted to see "people" and to do some window-shopping. We just walked, walked and walked and later went into the Muji shop. I got myself a book "Japan at a Glance Updated". It's about " a glimpse of japanese life", " japanese culture" and " japan today", it seems interesting to me, so I just bought it. Ken bought a long sleeve shirt for spring. Actually, today Ken did more window shopping than me, I just followed him whenever he got in shops. Well, at least I have a male friend who likes shopping. :- )
Tried to watch "Ocean 11" at Shinsaibashi but it was full and tried again at Umeda, but all the cinemas in there do not have that movie. It's so strange that a famous place like Umeda doesn't have any cinema with that movie !!! I guess that I am going to wait for the video.
Again, we went to sushi tabehoudai, but this time, I didn't feel as full as last time, maybe I have lost the excitement like the first time (that's what Ken said to me). Anyway, I still enjoyed every piece of sushi I ate, I always like it.
Also, I made a call to Tomomi to say goodbye to her as she's leaving for Beijing tomorrow for one year. She is going to deepen her Chinese language. I can say that she is the best Japanese friend I ever have, she has been helping me a lot during the last few months, especially in teaching Japanese and introducing me Kyoto and Osaka. I am going to miss her. We promised to stay in touch. Good luck and wish you the best, my dear friend.
Ah, Ken is also leaving for Beijing tomorrow at the same time with Tomomi. But he will be in Beijing only for three weeks, just for a short term of learning Chinese language.
Meanwhile, I decided to move on 10th next month, just two days before I will have my final exams. I asked my mom about the good day for moving, and she told me that 10th would be fine. I don't know why I still believe in such thing, such as when is the good day to move a new place. Somehow I guess I still have the old chinese tradition inside me. Hah ! Here in Japan, when you move to a new house, you have to eat a soba, called "Hikkoshi Soba". Soba is actually a kind of Japanese noodles and "hikkoshi" means "moving".

Asian Partners and Competitors
The events of September 11th inevitably cast President George Bushfs tour of Japan, South Korea and China in the light of these countriesf co-operation in Americafs campaign against terrorism. But each of them, for different reasons, gives America big reasons to worry ... Economist

Early of this morning, Yamashita san called and said that he's going to give me a refrigerator and washing machine for my new apartment. Wow ! I was glad to hear about it because then I don' t need to buy them anymore (or go to public washing machine to wash clothes). So, this afternoon, we met at my new apartment and Yamashita san gave me the refrigerator first ( the washing machine will be around 20th next month ). Ken and Henry helped me (and also to install the new lamp ).
I knew this Yamashita san from "Let's talk Japanese" activity. He was once become my talking companion, surely he is a really nice old man. He was the one who found me this new apartment, and had helped me lots of things. I have never met someone as nice as he is, it's really my luck..:-)
So, later after finished all the things, three of us went to find something to eat for our "lunch" ( it was already 4pm ) and we ended up at one Yakiniku house ( Korean restaurant ) and ordered yakiniku rice, bibimbap, and kimchi. Perhaps we were so hungry, the food tasted really good ! ^.^
Btw, I used to eat Korean foods alot when I was staying in China. My fav were bibimbap, the cold ramen and pujinge. Oh, I miss them !!!

The Olympic Winter Games really got my attention this week. I like to watch the speed race, snowboard, especially the figure skating. American Sarah Hughes won the gold medal in figure skating. I thought that Michelle Kwan would get the gold medal ( I like her confidence when skating), but she made mistakes. That's a pity ! Inside story
Ah, it's weekend again! And when I got back from school today, I got one postcard from Mats when he was in Singapore. Nice..:-) Again, I will watch "Ally McBeal" on television tonight at 23.00pm. Since my tv can't do the billingual language, most of the time I watch the pictures only. Anyway, that's fine with me, I just love it ! ^.^
Last time, I asked Tomomi about some hotels information in Tokyo and she gave me this : hotels. It's both in English and Japanese languages and I found it very useful and interesting. It covers not only in Japan but also around the world. I think I will need it later.

Un-interesting
I really have no idea what to post recently. Nothing much happening here. Just got the news from my friend, and he is not coming here, probably he would, but I don't know when. It's quite boring here, apart from studying nothing but playing during the weekdays and weekend.
Anyway, the weather is really nice today. It's about 13 degree celcius !! I felt so warm! I hope this kind of weather would keep going on. ^.^

Shopping
I got my mobile phone, it's from AU company. The color is orange/gray metalic, it looks really cool and I really like the color and shape. Compared to Indonesia, the mobile's prices here are much much more cheaper. There are some free mobiles, but mine cost 4.800yen, and since I am a student, I got half price for each minute's call, so it's about 20 yen perminute call. Good deal ! But I must sign the one year contract with them.
Later, Ken and Henry helped me to get a lamp for my new apartment. I chose the round one and costs me another 6.200yen! I couldn't believe I had to pay that much just for a ordinary lamp. I could get four in Jakarta. Well, what could I do ? It's Japan...
Then, accidentally we passed through the Giordano shop and the goods were on 50% - 70% sale. We took a look and to my surprise, all the goods became so cheap ! I was happy and felt like home. Haha...Then, I got myself a new jeans and one gray t-shirt, all less than 4.000yen. Believe it or not, that was my first time doing an outfit shopping in Japan!
Ah, we also had a very delicious ice-cream cone at Yodobashi mall...not as cheap as a cone should be, but it's worth the taste..^.^

Too Much of Tabehoudai ?
For the last one week, me and some friends (me, Henry, Ken and Min) already had 3 times of tabehodai kH‚וú‘èj, in english is "all you can eat". Too much ? I guessed so. Just like last night, we didn't plan to go out for dinner, but then realized that we had nothing in the refrigerator, we set for yakiniku tabehoudai. Last friday, we had Italian tabehoudai, and on last sunday, another sushi tabehoudai. I ate too much this week !!!! Anyway, they were great and I had lots of fun with my friends here. After eating too much (I couldn't even stand straight ), we decided to take a walk home which took exactly 1.5 hours, spent a little time watching the nightlife in Umeda area and then passed through the Yodogawa bridges (the bridge reminded me of the movie "Kate and Leopard" where the time zone(machine?) was on the Brooklyn bridge). It was quite dark but we could see trains passing by and we didn't feel cold at all (too much of energy, maybe)...^.^

AS NEEDS MUST: A woman makes use of the barrier along Jl. Jend. Basuki Rachmat in Cipinang Besar Utara, East Jakarta, to dry clothes, a mattress and a sofa, which had been soaked by floodwater over the past few days. The use of the barrier to dry household items by the area's residents has given that section of the road a colorful appearance.

What at feeling!!! I woke up and realized that the sun is shining hard in this cold weather. Somehow I am feeling great today. ^.^ A friend wrote me yesterday and asked me about Japan Visa if he wants to visit. I am glad that someone is going to visit me, at least later I would have a reason to visit other cities in Japan. Hah !
Nah, Happy Valentine's Day to all of you ! And here is for you :
I PROMISE IfLL BE THERE FOR YOU
If the road ahead seems rough at times, wefll walk it side by side.
And Ifll give whatever comfort and support I can provide.
If you want someone to listen, or just sit with you awhile,
I will gladly keep you company or share a hug and smile.
If youfre tired of being brave and you just need a time to cry,
You can let your feelings out and I will never questing whyc
No matter what it is, donft ever hesitate to say
How my help could make life easier for you in any way,
For I am not about to let you have the slightest bit of doubt,
That youfre someone very special who is deeply cared about.
In whatever ways you need me; I want to be there for you.

The Sun Also Sets
Shadows have been gathering over Japan for more than a decade. Only now is the country facing up to the devastating truth: the future is probably not going to be any brighter.

Hunting For Chocolates
Ok, so tomorrow's the Valentine's Day, no need to explain more. Well then, I took a stroll in one of the famous department stores here. I walked, walked and walked and finally went down to the basement where you could find foods whatever you like...;-) The most crowded places are the chocolates shops, they were fulled of ladies buying cute chocolates. In Japan, on the 14th of Feb, ladies give guys chocolates and exactly one month later, guys will give ladies back with white chocolates if he likes her. Hmm... why should it be a lady first to show kinda her feeling? Still, I don't quite like the idea. So, this year, I bought small packs of chocolates and gave them to my friends already, just before the day. ^.^

Harvard Project For Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) is going to have the next conference this year in Sydney, Australia. For anyone who is interested, please apply now. I was there 4 years ago and I can say it's a good time to meet intellectual young people and share knowledges. Hurry up, the application deadline is March 15, don't miss it! This year, I would like to take a part and I think it's an opportunity to visit Australia. : - ) )

LUNAR NEW YEAR PRAYER: A woman prays at Dharma Bhakti Temple in the downtown area of Glodok, West Jakarta, on the eve of the Chinese New Year. Some devotees visited temples in Jakarta on Monday, although «Imlek« (Chinese New Year) falls on Tuesday. Indonesians of Chinese ancestry throughout the country can now celebrate «Imlek« with their brethren throughout the world after the government granted people the right to celebrate Chinese culture. (JP/P.J. Leo, The Jakarta Post)
Just overlooked at my LIFE: 56 pages with total of 25.607 words, which 21.490 words in English and 4.117 words in Japanese. Hmm, I guess I should write much more in Japanese. Ganbatte ne!
The Day Before the Chinese New Year
Great day! I had snows for the whole afternoon here in Osaka. Well, Osaka usually only has a little snow, but that's enough for me since I can't stand if it's too cold. According to the weatherman, these one and two weeks will be the coldest weeks. No doubt that today it's freezing but I liked it so much that I even took a picture...;- )
I really do miss Indonesia's hot weather, miss my home, family and friends, miss the foods, and so on; not to mention tonight is the Chinese New Year's eve. Each year, all of us would gather and have a great dinner together at home (surely, my mom'd do the cooking) Then, the next day, which is the New Year's day, we would go to older relatives' houses and younger relatives'd come to visit as well, had a little chat here and there. I didn't enjoy it much anymore but it's a custom and we always do it every year. I only enjoyed the moments with my family.
This noon, my thai friend Ken moved to his new apartment. So we ( my roommate and I ) went to give him a help and to our surprise, it's a really nice apartment with a bit of Japanese style. I guess in the future, I will make regular visits to his home.. ; -)
Ah, tonight, we celebrated two great things by going to a sushi restaurant. The first thing was to celebrate tomorrow's Chinese New Year and the second one was to celebrate my friend's moving. Still the best one was he paid for the dinnerB ;- ) ) )
Happy Chinese New Year !!!

When someone is leaving
Today, my dear friend Mats has left for Singapore, looking for a job in Asia. Well, we have been friends since more than five years ago and it's so amazing that we can keep in touch using emails and icq during these years. I mean how many people in this world that can do something like us? You meet people online and then after a few times of talking and writing to each other, suddenly the contacts disappear. So, I really appreciate our close friendship and I do not want to lose him as my close friend. There were so many good and bad times that we had before that I would like to post here, but then I wouldn't want to do it. Memories stay forever in your mind and heart. ;-)
Good luck, my friend and you will always have my supports. Ganbatte!
